Gig 8 out of 27! Our Fender Rhodes is still fighting fit - despite the amount of beatings it’s had from us both! We’ve lost only 2 notes so far. The Tines continue to break but Dave brought a few spares with him. Middle C and F have been to the travelling Dulake repair workshop; cut to size and are now screwed proudly to their tone bars, waiting for the Bunters to destroy them again. Hopefully it’ll withstand a few more beatings. We don’t mean to hit the keys so hard (well that’s a blatant lie, course we fucking do!) - we could just tickle the notes, as recommended by professionals, but in the moment, when you’re on stage screaming your tits off and the drums are being pounded to fuck, it feels only natural to have a fight with this huge vintage beast that stands on stage before us. This painted yellow and black monster Bumblebee that we’ve driven hundreds of miles around Germany and Austria with. We’ve lugged it up and down countless steps - our technique of hurling it about is almost perfected. One wrong move though and your wrist will snap! So with a Chuckle Brothers coordination, we have our system down to a T. Dave leads and I follow. I find grunting gives me extra energy to carry it, therefore it’s a noisy affair- quite the spectacle if you’re observing us. I hate it when people do though. Don’t need people hearing my toilet type noises whilst carrying what feels like an occupied coffin. It’s how I carry heavy shit! Go all Cavewoman like - growls and scowls, but it works wonders!
The engineers here have been amazing and let us absolutely crank the Marshall to the point where the harmonics of the Rhodes are really bursting out. Proper Townshend stylee! Great to have such force behind you which allows you to create all manner of atmospheres. The top end of the Rhodes screams viciously like an enraged hyhena alongside the snare which is being slapped so hard, it gives Will Smith a run for his money!
Thanks for having us Germany and Austria. We’ve truly had the best time!
Next stop- Italy! Keep your hats on!
