(Written before and during our current tour.)
Another day crossed off the calendar as we head closer to Autumn 2024 Tour Take Off. Preparations for this can often be somewhat exhausting. I feel I need another week to rest before hitting the road, but the work begins now; from tour posters, to tour rehearsals; but first thing's first - get the priorities in order - tour outfits!
Dave would argue, that's not necessarily the most important thing to be focusing on at the start, I'd argue, it bloody is, because I can't think of anything else, so best that I get it all out the way, so I can move onto the admin!
For this tour, I've gone for a volcano red lace bolero with a jet black ra-ra skirt, which I've had to hack to pieces, due to it continuously getting caught on door frames!
Not too constricting, so should be fairly drum proof.
Along with our new outfits, we bring with us - fresh from the Bunter bedroom - new songs! We've spent a few weeks working on them and can't wait to let the songs run freely around the country. Playing quietly sat at an upright no way compares to them being screamed out behind a red-hot Fender Rhodes. It'll be interesting to see what the songs have morphed into by the end of our trip. Being on the road is great for bashing tunes into shape. You can bring with you a finished framework, but the feel of a song can dramatically change once it's been gigged loudly through a PA system with a pounding beat behind it, night after night. I'll bet they all race 100MPH in a few weeks; even the ballads!
We have a couple of new electronic groupies with us this time around. A Sans Amp Bass D.I pedal and a Whammy pedal.
Am very excited to hear the difference in our sound using the Sans Amp. Having an EQ to boost the bass and go directly into the PA as well as the amp should give us a fuller sound. Something we've been after for a very long time and never stop trying to achieve. Being that it's just the 2 of us in the band, sound can be limiting and end up very thin. This Sans Amp pedal should give us that extra missing dynamic.
And the Whammy - well, I can't wait to be stamping on that one and dive-bombing our way up north and back. With extra harmonics, it should really make the notes pop out. Have already ear marked a few tunes I'll be using it on- Mr Quilp, for sure!
We're currently spending our 'off days' down by the beautiful crashing waves of Cornwall! The sea air is clearing away our cobwebs while we plan next year's Bunter adventures. Look forward to telling you all about them- but for now, this enraged bumblebee and the sharply dressed Keith Moon will be hitting the beautiful and ever so slightly wet British motorways; coming to a town near you!
See you on the road, comrades! 🫡
P.S - Bring your earplugs! đź’Ą
